Used for a disaster relief poster for Hurricane Katrina victims,
sponsored by Soroptimist International of Camelback.

During the Katrina flooding, I was moved to paint “Keeping the Faith”. The image is meant to capture the isolation, helplessness, and ultimately the amazing faith shown by so many of the brave victims of the storm. Indeed, so many of the victims were left helpless – left to their faith alone, left with nothing but their trust that the human spirit and compassion of others would carry them to safe haven.

There was a time in my own childhood when my single mother would not have had the money or means to get my two brothers and me out of harm’s way. I believed that I needed to do “something” that reached beyond our donations to Red Cross. I suggested to my women’s charity group, Soroptimist International of Camelback, that we make a poster of my painting and sell them to raise money for our disaster relief fund.

I have donated the image, photography, and set-up, and Soroptimist International of Camelback has funded the initial printing. We sold the posters for $20.00 with ALL net proceeds going to the Soroptimist International Disaster Relief Fund.
