Through a series of unsuspected circumstances beginning with the notion of constructing a Vinok – a Ukrainian flower crown – to raise money for Ukraine, whom I am proud to call my ancestors, things unfolded and Cossack Cowgirl began.
Cossack is my Ukrainian mother’s family name; my father’s family moved to Arizona in the late 1800’s; Cossack Cowgirl seemed the perfect brand.
I created my first Vinok to raise funds for World Central Kitchen and things snowballed from there. A friend in Prescott who has a band called Gurley Girls asked me to make a Vinok for each of the four band members, then a downtown gallery owner asked for a dozen to display in her store window, which then led to an extraordinary column called the Prescott Pallette in the local paper.
My latest endeavor has been working with a charity called You Are the Angel, making Vinki (plural for Vinok) for their fundraising fashion show, Compassion With Fashion- Rise With Ukraine.
I plan to continue creating Vinki with 25% of sale proceeds going directly to Ukraine relief charities.
